Nerds Fix Any Hardware or Software Problems

At Dial a Nerd, one of our favorite things to do is fix computers. It’s like nerd heaven. Whether the problem is hardware or software, we love to get inside your computers brain and work out a solution.

When one of our nerds comes to your home or office to fix a computer, it’s like the family doctor coming to visit. We care for your computer the way a doctor would care for a patient. We try to diagnose the problem by asking simple questions that give us hints, and then start a process of troubleshooting which will eventually lead to an answer – and a healthy computer!

Computer problems come in a variety of flavours, but we’ve seen just about all of them. And if we haven’t seen them then we have a series of steps which will lead us in the direction which will inevitably fix any problem.

Computers are tricky things and not everyone knows (or even wants to learn) how all of the complicated parts work together to produce results. What with new programs, technologies and viruses being released daily, we’ll take this hassle away and teach you how we’ve done it. Sometimes it seems like all of the technology which is supposed to make our lives easier is actually very complicated to use. We are here to help you through these changes and complications, even if it’s just a quick tutorial to help you use a new program or a backup of your critical data.

How to ascertain if a problem is hardware or software related:

If your computer is behaving erratically, like freezing, resetting or crashing randomly, then you may have a hardware problem. Some common hardware problems are:

An overheating CPU – this can be caused by dust clogging your fans. Sometimes a clean-up will fix this but often a new fan is needed.

Crashing hard drive – this can be caused by old age, bad quality hardware, or an abrupt knock while the PC is on. A new hard drive is essential as data, once lost, is often irreplaceable. If you suspect a crashing hard drive please back up your data immediately as a problem like this can often get worse.
