Since then it has grown to have the widest footprint of any Dial a Nerd branch, not only assisting people in the surrounding suburbs of Edenvale and Bedfordview but also clients as distant as Kempton Park, Brakpan and Benoni. What makes your branch unique? We work hard, play hard and just gel together – we are the best of the best of the best, sir!

What is the best part of your job? Saving the day and watching a very happy client leave.

What types of computer problems are most common in your branch? Viruses and crashed Hard Disks – Don’t be a statistic 8/8 Computer Techs in Edenvale use NOD32 at home, why don’t you?!?

Do you still see old computers, or are more people upgrading and using newer technology? We still see a fair amount of old computers, most people just use it for emails and surfing the web.

Where do you think the IT industry will be in five years time? Online! Everything will be run as a server side app and our computers will just become expensive dumb terminals.

Are many computers coming in without virus protection? At least 50%

How do you handle computers with illegal software on them? We advise the client on ways to get legal and help them as best we can. We never take it into our hands to be judge, jury and executioner

What is your home computer like? Standard core 2 duo’s with 4gigs of ram, I use them for storage machines 5tb and growing (all legal of course)

How many computers do you have at home? 2 Desktops 1 Laptop and an X-Box

How much time do you spend on social networking sites like Facebook? About 30 minutes a day

What is the strangest computer problem you have seen? A client called us to say her computer smokes and it still works, so we asked her to come in so we could see the problem. Lo and behold we turned it on and it smoked, Smoke just puffs out of the power supply and it continues to work. We advised this is not safe and replaced her PSU.

What is a nerd? A person with a strong aptitude for computers and an ability to think logically
