Dial a Nerd is the nerd satellite branch in the West Rand, opened specifically to service the surrounding areas of Roodepoort. Since it opened in early 2009, the branch has grown in leaps and bounds, winning the ROCCI Small Business Award for the Roodepoort area. Located around the corner from Westgate in Wilropark, the branch is perfectly located to keep the computer problems out of the west for good.

What makes your branch unique? “We have top Apple mac knowledge and our techies are keen on upgrading their IT knowledge, which means we give excellent support.”

What is the best part of your job? “Helping my technical staff with problem solving and seeing the excitement when we resolve a problem.”

What types of computer problems are most common in your branch? “3G connection problems and virus related problems.”

What is the coolest gadget you’ve seen? “iPad.”

Do you prefer a PC or a Mac? “Mac – no contest.”

How many computers are coming in without virus protection? “Only about 30% , but they usually have FREE anti-virus that causes endless problems.”

What is a nerd? “A person that loves technology and continuously trys to update their knowledge on how stuff works to gain the knowledge to fix any problem that comes their way. ”

Frikkie has been the branch manager of Roodepoort since 2010.
